Welcome to Monks ("we," "our," or "us"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how we collect, use, and share your information.
This Privacy Policy explains how Monks collects, uses, discloses, and safeguards your information when you use our mobile application (the "App"). Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
If you do not agree with the terms of this Privacy Policy, please do not access or use the App.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Personal Information You Provide
When you create an account or use the App, we may collect:
- Email Address: Used for account creation, authentication, and communication
- Name/Username: Used to personalize your experience within the App
- Account Credentials: Password (encrypted and securely stored)
- Apple ID Information: If you choose to sign in with Apple, we receive limited information as per Apple's privacy standards
1.2 App Usage and Progress Data
To provide the core functionality of the App, we collect:
- Habit Tracking Data: Which habits you complete, when you complete them, and your completion rates
- Program Progress: Your current day in the 84-day program, week number, and program phase (standard, Monk mode, or completed)
- Streak Data: Your current and longest streaks for each habit
- User-Generated Content: Your Day 0 written commitment, daily recap responses, and any notes or reflections you create within the App
- App Preferences: Your notification settings, selected habits, and customization choices
1.3 Device and Technical Information
We automatically collect certain information about your device:
- Device Information: Device model, operating system version (iOS), device identifiers
- Usage Analytics: App opens, feature usage, screen views, and interaction patterns
- Crash and Performance Data: Technical logs to help us identify and fix bugs
- Push Notification Tokens: To deliver notifications you've opted into
1.4 Subscription and Payment Information
When you purchase a subscription:
- Subscription Status: Active/inactive status, subscription tier, renewal date
- Transaction Information: Managed entirely by Apple through the App Store and RevenueCat (we do not collect or store your payment card information)
2. How We Use Your Information
2.1 Provide and Maintain the App
- Create and manage your account
- Track your habit completion and progress
- Calculate streaks, statistics, and achievements
- Provide personalized content based on your program phase
- Enable core features like daily recaps and habit tracking
2.2 Improve and Optimize the App
- Analyze usage patterns to improve user experience
- Identify and fix technical issues and bugs
- Develop new features based on user behavior
- Test and implement app improvements
2.3 Communicate with You
- Send push notifications about your daily recap, habit reminders, and program milestones (only if you opt in)
- Respond to your support requests and inquiries
- Send important updates about the App, our policies, or your account
2.4 Process Subscriptions
- Manage your subscription status
- Process renewals and cancellations
- Provide access to premium features
2.5 Ensure Safety and Security
- Prevent fraud and abuse

3. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We may share your information only in the following circumstances:
3.1 Service Providers
We share data with trusted third-party service providers who help us operate the App:

These service providers are contractually obligated to use your information only as necessary to provide services to us and are prohibited from using your information for their own purposes.
3.2 Legal Requirements
We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities (e.g., a court, government agency, or law enforcement).
We may also disclose your information to:
- Comply with legal obligations
- Protect and defend our rights or property
- Prevent or investigate possible wrongdoing in connection with the App
- Protect the personal safety of users or the public
3.3 Business Transfers
If Monks is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred. We will provide notice before your information is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
4. Data Retention
We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services.
- Account Data: Retained until you delete your account
- Habit Tracking Data: Retained for the duration of your account
- Analytics Data: Retained for up to 26 months in anonymized form
- Crash Logs: Retained for up to 90 days
When you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within 30 days, except where we are legally required to retain certain information.
5. Your Privacy Rights and Choices
5.1 Account Deletion
You may delete your account at any time through the App settings. Upon deletion:
- Your personal information will be permanently deleted within 30 days
- Your habit tracking data and progress will be permanently deleted
- Your subscription will remain active until the current billing period ends (no refund for partial periods)
5.2 Access and Correction
You can access and update your account information (name, email) directly through the App settings at any time.
5.3 Push Notifications
You can opt out of push notifications at any time through:
- Your device settings (Settings → Notifications → Monks)
- The App's notification settings
5.4 Marketing Communications
If we ever send marketing emails (we currently do not), you can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in the email.
5.5 California Privacy Rights
If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):
- Right to Know: You can request information about the personal information we've collected about you in the past 12 months
- Right to Delete: You can request deletion of your personal information (with certain exceptions)
- Right to Opt-Out: You have the right to opt out of the sale of your personal information (note: we do not sell personal information)
- Right to Non-Discrimination: You have the right not to receive discriminatory treatment for exercising your privacy rights

6. Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect your information:
- Encryption: All data transmitted between your device and our servers is encrypted using SSL/TLS
- Secure Storage: Your data is stored on secure servers with Firebase and Supabase
- Password Protection: Passwords are hashed and encrypted
- Access Controls: Limited access to personal information by authorized personnel only
However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Children's Privacy
The App is not intended for users under the age of 17. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 17. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support@bemonks.com, and we will delete such information from our systems.
8. International Data Transfers
Your information may be transferred to, and maintained on, servers located outside of your state, province, country, or other governmental jurisdiction where data protection laws may differ.
If you are located outside the United States and choose to use the App, your information will be transferred to the United States and processed there.
By using the App, you consent to the transfer of your information to the United States and other countries where our service providers operate.

The App may contain links to third-party websites or services (such as educational content or resources). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third parties. We encourage you to read their privacy policies before providing any information.
10. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by:
- Posting the new Privacy Policy in the App
- Updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy
- Sending a push notification or email (for significant changes)
Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
